Bridge structure strengthened with CFRP plate

The workers use epoxy glue to paste thin CFRP plate onto the beams and then brush a layer of epoxy glue to reinforce them. It is estimated that the life span of the bridge after construction can reach about 50 years.

In 2002, a team from the University of Kentucky tried to make some bridges stronger by sticking a thin layer of CFRP plate onto them.

More than 30% of the bridges in the United States have already failed to meet the requirements and must be reinforced with high-strength materials before they can continue to be used. This attempt will lay a foundation for the renovation of bridges. Some bridges are constructed with enough steel and cement, and now workers use epoxy glue to paste thin CFRP plate onto the beams and then brush a layer of epoxy glue to reinforce them. It is estimated that the life span of the bridge after construction can reach about 50 years.

The original technology used to reinforce the fuselage of aircraft is now being applied to the renovation of bridges. The advantage is that the material is very light and flexible, and the shape can be adjusted according to needs. CFRP plate are highly compressive and can load 70.37 tons per square centimeter, compared with 6.33 tons per square centimeter for reinforced structures.

Externally bonded CFRP plate

  1. Surface treatment

  2. Mix carbon fiber plate adhesive

  3. Applying carbon fiber adhesive to CFRP plate

  4. Paste CFRP plate on the concrete and press with hard rubber roller

  5. Remove the excess adhesive and  clean the surface of the CFRP plate

  6. Conservation

Horse Constuction is a leading manufatuere of CFRP plate. CFRP plate is a kind of composite material made of carbon fiber and resin by pultrusion. It inherits the characteristics of light weight, high lightness and corrosion resistance of carbon fiber.

We have 1.2mm,1.4mm,2.0mm,3.0mm CFRP laminate.
50mm,100mm width

Compared with CFRP, CFRP plate has the main advantages.

1. the tensile strength is 7-10 times higher than that of the same section steel.

2. after reinforcement, the shape and weight and space of the components are basically unchanged.

3. The reinforcement effect of bonding one layer of CFRP plate is equivalent to 4-8 layers of CFRP, so the structural performance can be improved to a greater extent.

4. In the case of a flat plate with a middle beam or wall, as long as it can penetrate the holes through which the carbon fiber plate can pass, it is not necessary to cut off, so as to improve the reinforcement effect.
